The fact is, there aren't many nice areas in Bristol at all really. Taking out Clifton, Cotham, Redland, Stoke Bishop, Westbury, Henlease, Bishopston, parts of Horfield, St Andrews, and at a push, Montpelier, the rest of it is by and large, a shithole.

Some parts of the above are exquisite but for the rest, choose between flat roofed terraced houses with betting shops, defunt high street carpet stores and litter, street after street of dull grey/brown pebble dash rendered suburban housing, or rough, depressing housing estates that, either red brick or monotone grey pebbledash, you can easily, once entered, get lost in.

Love the place though.

Wow a lot of people scared of Bristol.

I haven't really found many rough areas, there's places i wouldnt go late at night but not many. I have lived around St Pauls and Easton for about five years and no-one has ever said anything to me. I'm not a big guy, don't have a car or use public transport (so tend to walk everywhere) and I am usually missioning around at all hours. I find these two areas very friendly.

I'm not particularly fond of town on a Friday/Saturday night, but generally I find if you keep yourself to yourself in Bristol then no-one will bother you.

But if you go looking for trouble (mouthing off etc) then you will probably find it.

Edit.
My idea of 'rough' might be slightly different from other posters, having lived in Crewe for most of my life, then spending four year in Stoke-On-Trent. Both locations populated with the violent and deranged (I was beaten up and spat at for wearing baggy trousers on many ocasions, fact.)
